It comes to an end

This semester we were asked to create this blog and I'm not going to lie, but at first I hated the idea. I am not a writer at all. I like to write when I have a specific topic, but when I'm asked to just free-lance write I am lost. However, as I was doing the blogs weekly, I began to really enjoy writing them. I thought it was fun to just write and vent and discuss. I would become a critic and comedian all in one day. My topics were general, but interesting to me. I guess I did have fun with this project and I hope that anyone that read my blogs would agree with me. =)

Close your eyes and make a wish!

Today it's a beautiful day out and whenever it's really nice out I like to think more. Now I know what your thinking, shouldn't I be doing that all the time, and your right! However, I mean my mind starts to wonder about different stuff in a sense. Today I couldn't help but think about my past and how it changed me in a sense. I couldn't help but just think about how ironic things could actually become.
All I kept thinking about is how I wish that I could be naive, and believe in fairytales and love like I use to. I remember when I was little I would watch Disney movies and fairytales and think that it could actually happen. It's sad to say that things like that are only make believe. It's so funny actually, because a big secret of mine is that my favorite movie of all time is the 10th Kingdom; most people have probably never even heard of it. This movie was made of tv movie that I just fell in love with. The movie is basically a love story and how a girl from New York City travels to the 9 kingdoms, where she meets all the fairytales and at the end falls for the man who thought he wasn't good enough for her. Ugh!! it is the pinacle of girly and cute and for anyone who really knows me, they know that is not me at all. It's sad to say that I think I use to be like that, I use to believe in all that stuff and I just don't know what happened to me. All I know is that my mind always wants me to be cynical and put down that love and romance side, because everyone I always tried to trust, would let me down, but in my heart I will always be the little princess waiting for her fairytale. I close my eyes and always make the wish at 11:11.

My first year of college

So I came to the realization that my first year of college is over. Today as I sat down stdying before a final, I was thinking about how I only have to take 3 more finals and then its summer, but as I started to really think about it, I remembered that not only will summer be starting, but my first year of college will be done. Then I started to really think, WOW! Right now many things such as prom and graduation are happening and I remembered that it was me one year ago doing that stuff. I can't believe how much time really flies.
When I started to really think, so much has really happened to me this year. I started college, started working at my first job, made a whole new set of friends, joined a sorority, and got through a lot of my credits toward graduation. I remembered all the crushes, and parties and I remembered what it was like to have to start all over again; being the little guy (freshman) again. So far this year was great. It's kind of sad that one year has passed already, but in truth I wouldn't take back one moment and I'm so excited to see what summer and the next three years of my college career will bring.

Music

I love music and I love how when you listen to different types of music, it can really change your mood. I heard once that "A girl's favorite song can tell a lot about how she is feeling, and that the lyrics of a song is the words she can never say". When people listen to music their emotions can take over. When you really hear the lyrics you get ingrossed in that sound.
I know that when I have the radio pumping in my car, it can make me happier, I also know which artist and which cd to put on for every mood that I am in. I have the rap music like Eminem and Kayne West when I’m in that “I don’t care mood”. I have the Pink and Avril Lavigne music for when I’m into that girls rule kind of mood and I also have the Simple Plan, Good Charlotte music to rock out to.
Music is a big part of everyone’s life and it is something many artists today have taken advantage of because what they sing about really has nothing positive to say. It’s sad to say that now rappers sing about women in derogatory manners and many little kids are following in their ways. The days of mixing good beats with lyrics that makes sense and actually has something to say are diminishing, which is really sad, because I know that everyone has those songs that will always hold a place in your heart for some kind of reason. To me, "Stronger" by Kayne West will always put a smile on my face for the memories it holds behind it.

UGHHH!!!

Everyday I feel like things are getting harder, and theres just nowhere to vent anymore so for this entry I'm going to vent about things have been been bothering me lately =).. 1) The cold weather, it’s late April already.. honestly the cold needs to go
2) How it’s the end of school and we still get tons of homework.. no offense of course =)
3) My phone, and how it keeps breaking
4) My JOB!!!
5) The fact that I work everyday, but I have no money
6) When people say they can eat everything they want and not gain weight… awww poor babies!! Lol
7) Fake smiles and the people who give them
8) People who never drive when you go out
9) Radio stations that play the same songs… and the fact that you can never catch the one you want to hear
10) People who still dress in winter clothes when it’s 70 degrees out, am I the only one to watches the weather when I go out
11) Really studying for a test and doing average
12) How it always decides to rain when I have to go out
13) Girls with perfect hair, it takes me hours to straighten my hair and it still never fully straightens
14) How nothing is ever on television when I have time to actually watch it
15) Hate having to complain about stupid things

Hehehe thanks for listening though =)

Passion

Passion is a word with so many definitions. Lately the idea of passion has come up a lot. When we read “The Curve of Binding Energy” I felt that Ted Taylor’s accomplishments were the perfect examples of passion. He held crazy ideas such as Project Orion and wouldn’t give up, he had a passion for science and that’s why he could succeed in a lot more.
The idea of passion is so invigorating even the word alone screams intensity. I believe so much in passion. Passion could be found in sports, life, love, or even your job. I feel that if you have passion for something, you won’t give up on it. Passion doesn’t leave you, it grows with you and I believe that having this intensity in something will let you grow more.

Dare to be Different

Today like all Sundays I went to church, and I was sitting in my seat and at Communion I noticed a little girl that got up to receive. She had to be about 11 years old and I noticed what she was wearing. No, I wasn’t judging what a little girl had on, but I thought it was the best thing I ever saw. She had on these big white sunglasses, mismatched clothes, a huge sparkly bag and little heels and she looked like she owned the walkway. She looked like she had no care in the world and could have sold what she was wearing to a designer.
I sat there and I looked at her and just smiled. Now that I’m a “grown-up” people judge so much on what other people wear, that no one would even try to pull that off. I remembered the days when I was little and use to do the same thing as that little girl and I thought I was so cool. Sometimes I miss those days, when the biggest care in the world wasn’t about what to wear or who to be fake to next, you just did your own thing and if people didn’t like it, you didn’t care.

Creative Non-fiction

There are many different types of genres in the literary world, and each of theses genres bring its own unique characteristics to abide by. We have the mysteries, romance, drama, fiction and even creative non-fiction. All of these genres bring something different to “the table” making it easy to distinguish between the styles.
Although creative-nonfiction is a genre of writing it is kind of hard to define. I took it as a type of writing that uses facts and real occurrences, but tells it in a different way. It brings a sort of “storyline” to the real facts. In Bruce Dobler’s Creative Non-Fiction Compendium he describes it as "literary journalism" or "literature of fact”. He defines it as a branch of writing which employs literary techniques and artistic vision usually associated with fiction or poetry to report on actual persons and events. I also found a different definition (Barrie Jean Borich) that states it is a writing that can embody both personal and public history. It is a form that utilizes memory, experience, observation, opinion, and all kinds of research. Sometimes the form can do all of the above at the same time. Other times it is more selective and it can include the author’s perspective.
Over this semester we have read two examples of Creative Non-fiction, which was “All Around the Town” and The Curve of Binding Energy”. In these stories the authors use real facts and added interesting twists to make the facts grow into a story and make it come alive.
Lee Gutkind, the author of several books of creative nonfiction and the founder/editor of the journal Creative Nonfiction, mentioned in Bruce Dobler’s Creative Non-fiction Compendium that this genre strives to communicate real-life stories dramatically. He also mentions that “The most important quality that a creative nonfiction writer can have, is passion: ‘A passion for the written word; a passion for the search and discovery of knowledge; and a passion for ... understanding intimately how things in this world work.”’ I feel that passion makes anything better. If you have passion for what you are writing about, then people will want to read it and would be able to experience what you are feeling in your words. Having this type of passion in our writings as students is important, especially when using this genre, because we are able to use what we are taught and add our own imagination to it.

Happiness

I read an article in a magazine awhile ago that talked about how there are certain things to people that will always make them happy. The person who wrote it listed the five things and although I don't remember exactly what they were, I remember that it was as simple as taking a run for her. After I read the article, I thought about five things that will always do the trick for me. They didn't need to big, just simple things that were suppose to always without a doubt be a reason to put a smile on your face. I sat on my couch thinking about things and when I was trying to think about different choices, I noticed that my face would just smile at even the thought. My list was 1) taking a drive in my car with the radio on, 2) eating a bowl of ice cream, 3) going on swings, 4) watching a good movie 5) sitting outside til dark on a summer night. These things may sound kind of simple and even random, but doing any one of them makes me happy. This exercise really made me think that all the things we try to do in life to make oursleves happy is just an illusion. It doesn't have to be drastic to make you feel good, just simple.

It's Madness Baby!

Basketball has been a hot topic in the sports world lately. First there was the Rockets winning streak winning 22 games in a row, but it ended when they lost to the Celtics, and now yesterday was the start of college basketball's March Madness. March Madness occurrs around the same time every year, when 64 of the best colleges face off to go to the final four and then be crowned the winner. watching college basketball, especially this is so much better than the pros. The students who play in this tournament play with something that the pros forgot a long time ago, and that is heart. The teams that play in this tournement know that if you don't bring your A-game when you play then it's over, because it's a one game elimination. So the teams play like it's the last time they will ever play, because for some of the seniors that take part, it will be. This is what makes march madness so great. I use to play basketball, and now I just play for fun. I remember some of my games that ment so much to me, that I needed to win, I remember playing with passion and I remember playing that last game on a real court and going home and knowing that it was only a game and now it would be just a hobby to me. I remember feeling on the court, especially for the big games a sense that I didn't want to dissapoint people by losing, and during this tournement that is exactly what these players feel. Every year I watch this, and I see the Cinderella stories and the upsets and even the teams that are number one who actaully make it to the top, they all want the same thing, and that is to win!

Technology

I have never been good with new technologies. Everything that comes out new i am totally clueless on how it works, that is why creating a blog took like 2 hours the first time i tried. Not only that I'm not good with the new stuff, I firmly believe it all hates me.I have the worst luck with all of it and its proff because today for no apparent reason my cell phone doesn't work and iI probably have to get a new one now. It is said to say, but I don't know how to work an ipod, or even do anything to techincal on the computer. The best is whenever I tell people that I really don't know how to things, they laugh at me as if I was lying, because people today should know how to do this stuff. I was born in a technical age and now people are relying so much on technology that I feel like one day its going to be what ruins us. I don't feel like technology is reliable at all, because it never works when you need it most. I hope that one day I do get better with though because it's growing even more and more.

St. Patricks Day

Yesterday was St. Patricks a day when everybody is Irish no matter what. Honestly it is one of my favorite days of the year because everyone just gets a little cheerful probably do to the massive amounts of guiness (only when your legal of course hehe). Every March 17, a parade is held in New York City to celebrate this holiday. The first parade was held in 1776 and occurred on 5th ave and it has been held every March 17 at the same location. The only time it doesn't happen on the actual day is if falls on Sunday. Watching the parade, wearing grren, eating corn beef cabbage and red potatoes and drinking green milk for dessert has been a tradition in my house as well as many other houses every year. This year was alot of fun and i can't wait for next year!!

PICTURES

Pictures are worth a 1000 words. What you see in a picture may not be what other people see in the same picture. You can look at something for hours and never really get what is going on. Pictures can show all types of emotion. These things all define what a picture means. The other day I was looking at my blog and saw the pictures on the side of it that I had put up. When I thought about what I wanted my blog to be about, an array of different topics, I saw that the pictures I had put up were just right for it. All those pictures described apart of me that I wanted my blog to also display. Out of the pictures, my favorite one is the one of the girl taking a picture of herself. I thought this one really showed the meaning of it all. You look at the picture and you think its just a girl with a camera, but as you start thinking about it, it really boggles your mind. I took it as a simple girl just having enough with being ordinary, she wanted to be different and extreme. I had thought she looked sad at first, trying to get over something , but then I realized that now she wanted to be just her and she was trying to show that. You may be thinking how and why did I come up with these random thoughts on a picture, and the reason is that I wanted to prove my point that emotions are a very powerful thing and that every picture you see is really worth a thousand things.

Big Brother 9

I don't know if you have noticed, but this is my second post about a reality show. Yes, I am a reality t.v. junky. What can I say, I love the fake drama with the little fights that these people do just to entertain. People go on reality shows and become characters and I love it. I have been watching Big Brother from the very first season, back then I don't think anyone even knew what the show was. This is the 9th season of putting random people in a house and kicking them off one by one for money. However for the first time ever, the contestants were paired up with a person that is supposedly their soulmate. If you have been watching the show, that is very much not the truth, in fact in the beginning of the show, half the couples hated eachother, but now they realized they must work together if they want to win this. Some of the people have been saying that this will be a short season because Big Brother 10 starts in June, and they only had this season because of the writer's strike. I don't really like the couple idea because I tend to like one of the two people in the couple so it makes it hard to cheer for them. However, in the show my favorite pair is Chelsia and James, I love there carefree attitude and I'm cheering for a romance between them. Yes, again I will say I know it is pathetic to watch shows like this, but it is my addiction.

Smoking

If you ever walked onto any college campus, don't you feel like your walking into an ashtray? Smoking can kill, and its a proven fact. It actually even says it on a pack of cigarettes that this will cause cancer! If people know this, then why do they still do it? What is the necessity, is it really worth your life? People may smoke for all sorts of reasons. Some may reason that the feeling when you breathe it in and you feel it literally filling your lungs, or that people smoke because they are bored, they like that dizzy feeling or even just because it became a habit that they can't kick. However, I feel the reason that many people smoke is because they are social smokers. You know the people who smoke only when they are out with friends and everyone is doing it. They want that feeling of the lungs burning, but for some reason it's only when they are out. Why do people want that sensation though? I have always found the habit gross. The smell alone is nasty and will stick to your hair, clothes even hands for what seems like days, no matter how many times you try toget it off. I won't lie I have been that social smoker once or twice and I have succumbed to the addiction, but after it I don't find the good in it. I'd later go home stinking of smoke, and coughing up a lung, and I begin to think why would I ever do that again. Smoking is an addiction, but it should be stopped as soon as possible, because it really is a nasty habit and it isn't worth your life.

" Do You Wanna be on Top"

If you have ever watched America's Next Top Model you know exactly what I'm talking about. This catchy tune of " Do you Wanna be on Top" and " I want to be fierce" are two ways for people to recognize this show. Channel 9 has hosted this show for nine cycles already and this Wednesday will be the premiere of the tenth cycle. Tyra Banks is the host of this show, in which young girls go on and try to become a top model. There has been some problems with the show, however, because people have felt that who are these people to tell young girls they can't make it or that they have problems with their bodies. This was a also a problem when a picture of Tyra Banks was put in the tabloids and she was seen as unfit. The tabloids made a big deal of the this because they felt that she didn't have a great body anymore and she shouldn't be judging other girls. I have been a faithful watcher of this show since the first cycle. I mean I'm not going to lie my dream like most other girls was to be a model, so of course when the show is on I go into model mode and do the catwalk like a thousand times. I don't belive it's a bad show and I don't believe the girls get judged too harshly at all. However, I do believe that the standards for models need to be changed. It is really not good for women to be 5"10 and 110lbs, but thats just my beliefs. Tune in though this Wednesday at 8 to see what it's all about.

No Regrets?

When it comes down to do it, how do you know if you make the right decisions? Everyday you are faced with new problems, options and questions, whats to say that if you chose a different decision you would be where you are today? I know this is totally mindboggling and you are probably reading this and thinking what is she talking about, but if you ever really thought about this it would drive you crazy. Just think, what if instead of going to St. Johns, you went to a different college, your life wouldn't be the same, but would you still end up meeting the same people eventually? There was a movie called "Sliding Doors" staring Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah, where the movie showed Gwyneth missing a train or catching the train and seeing her life played out in both ways. In the movie her life is obviously different, but in the end it didn't matter. She still ended up at the same point. This is exactly my question, is that the truth, is everything you do in life just a question with the answer already figured out? Is it really true that whats ment to be will find its way? I always wondered those questions especially the question of if you have regrets or not. I guess when it truely comes down to it, no one should really have regrets, because everything you have done is for a reason and even if you don't know the reason, it happened because it was ment to happen. There is a quote from Sex and the City" from Carrie and I feel this is the perfect way to end this, "Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away."

Valentine's Day

Today is February 14, the day all single people dread. It is a day when they feel lonely and depressed because they don't have someone to buy them a 2 dollar card. I say WHO CARES, a day shouldn't make someone feel bad, if you really want that chocolate buy it for yourselves, you deserve it! Everyone deserves to find true love and if it doesn't happen on this day then don't worry about it. You look around at all these people who are "in love", but they are not, they fight all the time and really don't care about eachother, they flirt with other people and know nothing about who they are in a relationship with, but on this day everyone is "in love", I'm not saying this is true for all people, if you are in love then congratulations and have fun today. Valentine's Day goes back a long time and is a day when people are suppose to show their love to eachother, usually by giving roses or candy. It is a romantics favorite day, where they get to be all lovey dovy with eachother. It is a day when people wear red and have that permant smile on there face. I personally have never had a good Valentine's Day either single or when I had someone. I always hated the holiday because I feel it is made up. I would so much rather a guy give me flowers or candy on a random tuesday and just show me they like me in little ways, I never needed anything big, just the little things that make me smile. Whatever the case may be have a good Valentine's Day and if you are single today remember that the people that are in a relationship, are probably fighting.

Cause You Had a Bad Day!

Have you ever woke up and just known that you shouldn't get out of bed, you just have a feeling that everything is going to go wrong. Then you decide to get up and just do it because how could it be that bad , but you end up being late to school, stain your clothes, have the worst hair day, hit every light possible, and this is all while it starts pouring rain. Right then you probably feel like crying because you knew, you knew not to get up, you had that feeling it was going to be bad, but instead of crying, you just start laughing to yourself and everyone thinks your crazy. If your anything like me, I feel like I have those days alot lately. Those days when everything I just listed plus more just happens. You feel like you hit rock bottom and theres no more light at the end of the tunnel. You try so many things to make you better, the normal eating ice cream or listening to music that would usually comfort you, but it doesn't work. My question though is how do you get out of this rut? What truely makes you feel better? Like I said I am somebody that has those bad days often so i'm not and expert, but my advice if you ever feel this way, is to sit back take a deep breath, think positive and just smile. Like they say, " It is what it is" and "it could always get better", and "What's ment to be will find it's way".

Secrets

Shhh!!! Don't tell anybody. Secrets are a very dangerous game and everybody has them, but what is it about a secret that is so intriguing? Is it that nobody knows or is it that people could find out, or is it that you are doing wrong and nobody would suspect it? In society secrets happen everywhere, a secret affair, secret business deals or just things that you would never want anyone to know. Secrets even make the best plots for famous shows and movies, such as Grey's Anatomy, when one of the ongoing sagas is the relationship between Meredith and McDreamy and how their relationship started out from a lie and progressed to a secret romance throughout the show. Whatever the case may be why you started or poesses a secret, it still eats you up inside. What people don't understand is that secrets will always come out one way or another, that high, that reason why the secret started will come down and sooner or later you know that deep down you want it to come out and let it go.

Superbowl Sunday

Today February 3rd, 2008, is the day many sports fans have been waiting for. It is the Superbowl. This tradition has been happening for 42 years. Today the undefeated New England Patriots will face the New York Giants. As of right now the Patriots are 18-0 one game away from the perfect season. The only other team in history to have the perfect season was the 1972 Miami Dolphins. I personally am a huge football fan, and my team has always been the New York Jets with a great liking to the Green Bay Packers, however, tonight I will be a true New Yorker and cheer for the Giants. I absolutely hate the Patriots, mainly for what they did to my Jets in the beginning of the season. I have always thought they play dirty and it was proven. In both cases tonights Superbowl will be a great achievement. For winning the game, the Patriots will make history being the 2nd team ever to be undefeted and the 1st team to go 19-0 because when Miami won, the season was only 17-0. However, for the Giants they will probably make an even bigger "Cinderella" story because they will stop a team that is 18-0 from winning that "game", the game that will make New England perfect. I feel that for the Giants to win will be the biggest accomplishment. It will show that Tom Brady isn't the "god" people think he is and it will show that Eli can be better then his brother, but even though that would be proven, the reporters would make up some excuse for Brady and Eli would still be compared to his brother. Tonight I am cheering for the Giants, I hope that Eli can prove to everyone that he is great, I hope that his "Cinderella" story will have a happy ending. Whatever the case may be, the Superbowl is "The Game", it doesn't matter what happened early in the season, it doesn't matter how many games you won, it just matters what happens tonight and who will reign supreme. GO GIANTS!!

Being Who You Are

As you grow up being who you are becomes harder to define especially after people define you for themselves. Breaking out of that definition is something I have definately always strived for. I always thought of myself as an all around girl, ready for anything that gets thrown at me. The type of girl that could talk sports with the best of them but also knows about the latest entertainment and fashion details and that's exactly what hidden glamour is all about. I want to enlighten people about everything thats going on with the things that I love to talk about. I hope you enjoy!
